This image is The Earth at Night, an Astronomy Picture of the Day from November 27, 2000.Someone had submitted a portion of this for our "I AM" image collection but it was only cropped on the US - showing the whole world really shows the "darkness" of some parts of the world.
This is a fairly high res image and if you click on the image above (to see it larger) you can see Mwanza, Tanzania in Africa - one tiny spot of light at the bottom of Lake Victoria.
