Who do YOU say I AM? Display Panels

He is the image of the invisible God,
the firstborn over all creation.

For by Him all things were created:
things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible,
whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities;
all things were created by Him and for Him.

Colossians 1:15-16 (NIV)

Here is a shot of the display panels that were created to display the artwork and other stuff from our "I AM" journey. It is currently in my garage and go to the church Tuesday night and be set up in the back corner of the narthex (by the photo board) - hopefully the weather will cooperate as it has been either too windy or rainy for moving the panels
.
I am so pleased with the panel unit - although the front panel currently is kind of boring - changing out the color of the paper to black will do the trick.

This is the first spread - it starts out with an invitation to the display, the I AM stuff and the IF stuff.

Here is the Light and Gate spread.

Here is the Vine and the Way, Truth, Life spread - I still have some trimming to do on this and the previous spread.

Here is the King panel, and also you can see how thin the panels can squeeze together, now I can get my car in the garage.

This spread is about the Living Bread and on the second panel there is info and some pix of folks at Steve's working on the ribbon weaving on the small banners - and then there is an example of our painting technique with the layers of pattern, plastic, tulle, paint and glitter. I still need to add some notes and pix about the painting at the bottom of that panel.

The Veil gets a spread all for itself - and I will print out the pix on the left side to be bigger. On the other panel I will let down some of the crepe paper so the guy with the horn will be behind it.

Here is the Living Water and paraments spread.

The last spread is the kids names and some info about Easter Sunday - there are pix of the names in the potted plants and the scripture about the Jesus being the Name above every name.

The Easter Sunday display includes an invitation to visit the sanctuary, the picture board, Easter season services and the blog to continue with the display.

I have some bookmarks with the question "Who do YOU say I AM" and the blog address for people to take away. There are also some little pieces of colored paper, pens and push pins for people to add their answer to the front panel - the paper is all different bright colors, so that will help make that front panel more interesting, too.

And here it is all closed and ready to go.

The panels are a made from black foam board - the stands are wood dowel rods and some decking parts -and then the panels are assembled together by sliding the dowels into slots on the sides of the foam board - the panels are then held together with binder clips (this allows flexibility for the size of the display).

I have attached the information for this specific I AM display with more binder clips and tacky putty (so not to damage the foam board) so they will be able to be used again.

Banner Triads

We call the hanging three panel banner sets "triads". Here the triads are hanging up in the rafters with the victorious "Resurrection" Easter triad hanging up front and center.

There is a triad for each of the I AM statements used as the main focus and themes of our Lent and Holy Week services - starting at the left back and going around are: The Vine - The Living Water - The King (Blessed be...) - The Living Bread - The Way, The Truth, The Life - The Resurrection and The Life - The Light of the World - "IF" - The King (Hosanna) - The Gate - The Veil.

This "triad" is three of the four of us that worked together on the Lent and Easter project - we left a space for Rick so we can photoshop him in later.

The Veil

“And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split.
Matthew 27:50-51

This photo composite animation of the veil being rent during the Good Friday service reminds us of what Jesus did for us on the cross.

In talking with Boo this past Sunday she mentioned that unless folks attended the funeral service on Good Friday the Easter season of celebration doesn't really mean as much. Seeing the veil being torn and fall as it did was such a moving and beautiful sight - such a powerful image that makes Easter Sunday and the Easter season a real reason to celebrate. Without Jesus being torn and dying there would be no resurrection.

“Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.
Hebrews 10:19-22

Easter Banners for the Wall

The Big Easter banner features an image of the rising Jesus on one overlay and names of Jesus on the overlay below.

Here is Jesus in my dining room. During the afternoon on Good Friday I had painted the rising Jesus overlay. While He was drying He took up most of my dining room and all of my painting surfaces - so in a way He made me stop my work, take time to get ready and go to the Good Friday service - and I was there on time for the beginning of the service!

You can get an idea of how big the banners for the wall are when you see Mike and Steve next to the Big Jesus (Steve is also standing on a bench).

We were challenged each week with hanging the big banners on the wall because of the height. We found that it was easiest to hang the banner by hooking one side and then moving the tall ladder over and hooking the other side.

I am always totally amazed when the banners go up on the wall because it is the first time I am able to see them actually hanging (rather than on my table) - and it is the first time to see the two overlays together. When the Big Jesus and His names finally were hung I was truly in awe and had goose bumps at the sight.

I had some challenges with the name overlay during the day on Saturday - it was taking so much longer to paint than I had anticipated and I was becoming frustrated and anxious about not getting done. Then because of the size I had trouble maneuvering around it in my dining room and I ended up getting my foot caught in the tulle and ripping a hole in the middle of it - at the same time I disoriented the tulle from the pattern and sent glitter all over the room (as if there wasn't enough glitter around already). I had to reposition and then continue by faith, believing that I had gotten it lined up straight to continue to paint. I patched the hole and there is still a tear but it is a reminder that it is God is in control. So, to see the banner up on the wall and have it look as it was planned and better that I ever imagined was a Easter miracle for me.

Good Shepherd

In response to the question asked earlier, "Who do YOU say I AM?" I am answering the question and saying that today to me Jesus is my shepherd - and that means I am a sheep needing to be lead.

Psalm 23 - A psalm of David.

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.

Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.

Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.

Who do YOU say I AM?

Now that Lent and Easter Sunday has come and gone for this year it is a good time to look back to the question that was asked at the beginning of Lent, "Who do YOU say I AM?"
